One Pagan Concept of the Divine

Paganism is an umbrella term for a myriad of practices and while they do have things in common there are also many differences.  This blog is my personal concept of the divine as I have learned and experienced and not all Pagans will agree with me.  I don’t see a lot of blog posts that get into the theology of Paganism and I thought it might be helpful to some to see what another Pagan believes about the Divine.  This is just one theology, something for you to think about, you may or may not agree and that’s okay.

This is how I see the Divine.  The Divine is the All, a concept beyond human comprehension.  This is why we break it down into aspects that we call the gods.  They are just fragments of the All broken down into pieces that our human mind can work with.  We are further fragments of the All having a human experience.  Meaning we are all pieces of the Divine.

This doesn’t mean that the gods aren’t real.  They are very real pieces of the Divine, but they represent different aspects of the Divine in neat little packages for us to work with.  As humans we have a need to compartmentalize and categorize.  By breaking the All into these fragments we can understand pieces of the Divine at a time and work with them in more manageable chunks.

For reasons not understood the All wishes to gain these human experiences through us and in the process of having these human experiences we reincarnate through many lives until we have finished our journey and rejoin with the All.

In my theology it doesn’t matter what gods you choose to work with as they all exist.  This allows that you can choose whatever pantheon you like to work with or even mix pantheons if that is what works for you.  The most important part is to find those god fragments that allow you to work with and experience the Divine.

My concepts aren’t complicated but the Divine doesn’t need to be complicated.  The Divine is something we should be able to access simply.  Again, this is just one theology but it’s a perspective for you consider as you develop your own relationship with the Divine.
